Flower Hair clip Tutorial by Amy*

Hey Hey!  I have a fun and easy project to share with you today using Silk Flowers, Dylusions spray inks, Krylon Glitterblast and of course images from The Octopode Factory!

Silk Flower Hairclips

These silk flower hair clips feature fun strawberry charms made with images from The Octopode Factory.  I’ll give you the step by steps on how to create these charms along with the silk flower hair clips in a minute…but first lets take a closer look at the flowers.

Silk Flower Hair Clips Pink Daisy

For this Pink Daisy Hair Clip I covered the center of the flower with scrap paper and sprayed Dylusions  around the edges of the petals.  Once the Dylusions spray ink was dry I gave the entire flower a spritz of Krylon Glitterblast Diamond Dust.  While the Glitterblast was still wet I sprinkled two shades of Martha Stewart Glitter on top and sealed with Krylon Glitterblast clear sealer.

I wanted to experiment with different colors and silk flower types for these hair clips.  Here I have used a hot pink Black Eyed Susan.  Again, I used Glitterblast Diamond Dust to give the flower an all over shimmer then sprinkled Martha Stewart Glitter on the tips of the petals.  Don’t forget to seal with Glitterblast clear sealer.

Silk Flower Hair Clip Rainbow Daisy

This hair clip is my absolute favorite!  There’s nothing I like more than Rainbows and Glitter…except maybe a winning lottery ticket.  Or better yet finding a pot of gold at the END of a rainbow…with a Leprechaun in it…that would be totally awesome.  Even better still if the Leprechaun was riding a Unicorn…that’s my Ultimate scenario.  Anywhoo…to create this Hair Clip I started with a plain white daisy and sprayed every color of Dylusions Spray ink around the petals.  *You will need to hold your sprays a good distance away from your flower so the inks don’t bleed together.  Spray with Krylon Glitterblast Diamond Dust but don’t seal…yet.   Grab some Mod Podge and use a small paintbrush to paint the tips of the petals and sprinkle a coordinating color of Martha Stewart Glitter.  Now seal.

You can find silk flowers on the cheap at most dollar stores and craft stores.  I got mine for $1 per bunch at Dollar Tree.

Here are the steps to create these fun hair clips for your reference:

STEP 1:  Spray Silk Flowers with Dylusions Spray Ink and Spritz with Krylon Glitterblast.

STEP 2:  Sprinkle Martha Stewart Glitter on flowers while Glitterblast is still wet.  *For more detailed glittering use Mod Podge.

STEP 3:  Seal with Krylon Glitterblast Clear Sealer.

STEP 4:  To adhere Flower to hair clip snip the stem as close to the base of the flower as possible.  Cut a small circle of felt and adhere to flower with E-600.  Flip Flower over and use E-6000 to adhere clip to felt circle.

Octopode Factory Charms

STEP 1: Color Octopode Factory images with Copic Markers (or whatever you’ve got)

STEP 2:  Mount and seal images to Grunge Board or heavy chip board with Mod Podge.

STEP 3:  Cut out charms and adhere to flower with E-6000

STEP 4:  Add a thick coating of Glossy Accents to charms…allow to dry overnight.
